Victoria's Secret is one of the most popular companies for selling underwear, lingerie, and beauty products to women across America.  With multi-million dollar endorsements and booming sales such as the Semi-Annual Sale, the company is very well trusted by women across the United States.  The newest endorsement introduced is the "Hello Bombshell" endorsement which includes the newest line of bras created.  Everyday, both women and men are entertained with commercials, posters in the stores, magazines, and internet ads promoting these products.  With this in mind, I've decided to use this ad to analyze one of the most successful companies.

Insurance is an unaviodable part of our lives. We need insurance for medical practices, dental work, to own a home, and to drive a car. We get it to secure our belongings, families, and even body parts. In order for an insurance company to bring in new customers, they have to make advertisments that appeal to thier audience, give them credibility about what they are selling, and give a clear message that is informative or gives reasons. Allstate Insurance recently started airing commercials that presented a man in a suit, usually beat up, representing Mayhem. Allstate has this man deliberately wrecking peoples cars while he represents a wind storm, a puppy, a teenager girl, and other damaging senarios or things. Damage to anything you have is unwanted by everybody. Especially your car. By showing quite possible senarios when anybody's car can be damaged, Allstate pulls our attention by making us laugh as a person does something that would definately hurt them and saying, we'll protect you against these kind of things.

The commercial are used by the companies to catch the attention of the audience and to make them feel as if without that product the consumer is vulnerable and must buy it. Apple does that amazingly with their Mac versus Pc commercials. Apple is able to hit all the right area, the person’s logos, pathos and ethos. There is also a bit of comic relief to keep the audience hooked on the commercial and watch them again and again. In order to catch the audience’s attention a company must make it’s audience feel that the product will make their life easier and more functional. Mac in the commercial does that very well. One must examine the commercial and see the techniques used by the big apple to capture our attention.

The Next Level

College is considered the educational next level after high school, but what if college is not for you? My first attempt to the educational next level failed. I was not able to attend the fall 2009 semester at Wayne State due to problems with my financial aide. I felt extremely down and like maybe college right then was not for me. I also knew that me doing nothing wasn’t an option. I considered taking a semester or a year off but time was moving so slow. I needed something to be involved in. One day while watching television an Everest commercial came on, “Your sitting on the couch anyway way not do something with your life.” At that time I felt he was right I wasn’t doing anything so why not? It ended up not being for me but is Everest the place for people to go when they want a better job or more education and they know college is not an option for them? It may or may not be but the Everest commercials surely lead people to believe that it is the way to go with there we work with your schedule and its easy ploy.

For the new genedration to get off to a better start why not start them on cola soda. When is it too soon to give a child cola? Could it be the high caffeine levels or the addiction in which you get when you drink it? The things that people give infants to drink may even include cola or any form of soda. It was a specific ad that caught my eye and it says “how is too soon” to start drinking cola. It is the simple facts in which we try to discover in order for the addictions to come to a complete stop. Most sodas could contain traces of drugs in which could hurt a child’s health or even kill them. It’s the main reason as to why so many people including children that fall in love with the sugary soft drink.  But in this ad there is a woman and her child and they happen to have a cola bottle at the bottle. It could be something that is the great effects as in to why so many people can’t fight the addictions of caffeine filled drinks.

Sex sells period. In society today this is one of the number one ways of trying to promote a product of any kind. Each year more and more companies are find out that less is more, a large chunk of clothing industry is trying to spice up there product by displaying half naked or even naked bodies, even some drink ads are taking a liking to the idea that a bikini model is far more of a attention grabber than a child. While some may find this new way of promoting humorous and even more attention grabbing to an audience, some feel as if its degrading society and can hurt this generation of young kids being shown risqué ads all for just maybe a simple pair of jeans.  And we move further into this discussion, we’ll take a look at why this is such a hit with society today, why do people buy into these items more.

Most advertisements seen in the media today involves sex in some form of way. This is probably because many people believe that "sex sells." A lot of these ads make sex or sexy things look pleasant and relaxing and that probably make more people want to buy their product or even have more sex. Some ads even have hidden subliminal messages involving sex and most people don't even realize it. Of course sex is natural and everyone does it or maybe will do it at some point in their life, but maybe these ads exaggerate the whole concept of sex. Sex can bring pleasure but it can also bring consequences. So instead of showing the good pleasurable side of sex, why not create an ad that would want people to protect themselves from the filthy side? A couple of years ago Trojan Condoms made a humorous commercial with intentions on persuading the audience to use their condoms to protect themselves from sexually transmitted diseases and the rest of the bad things that can possibly come along with sex. Who wouldn't want to experience the pleasurable side of sex and protect themselves from the unpleasant side at the same time? This has to be one of the brightest ideas ever!

The Michigan Humane Society is a charitable organization, and relies on private donations whether it is from one person or a company. It is one of the biggest animal rescue organizations, and the reason for them being the biggest is because they advertise.  You see donation containers at some stores for the Humane Society, they hold special events to raise money and awareness, and they also have TV commercials. The commercials get your attention by showing pictures and videos of some poor abandoned or beaten animals, while the sad music is playing the background. That shows they are using pathos by getting you to feel bad for all the animals and wishing you could rescue one. At the end of the commercials they have someone talk and say how “you can save a life by donating just $19 a month.” I do believe this ad is very persuasive because it makes you feel so sorry that all you want to do is help, and donating an extra $19 a month is so easy and it saves a life.

Is there any product that convinces consumers that it has a better quality and a catchy slogan? Nike in my opinion would be the best product. “Just Do It” is very encouraging and shows a sense of diversity. For an example, whatever is the case or situation, you should perform at your highest level. This brand is affiliated with almost every sport around the world. Basketball, football, tennis, and soccer are just to name a few. The reason I chose this ad is because they use sports which is their specific purpose of manufacturing their product.

The tobacco industry has been has been decreasing in product sales over the past few years. This is due to the slander and harsh truths directed at the companies in recent advertisements. Lately, the tobacco industry has been being put in a very negative light.  The “Shards ‘O Glass” commercials are examples of bashing the tobacco industry. Advertisements make fun of the fact that they put fiberglass in a majority of their products. These commercials are all over TV and make the public understand the harm in these products.

Every person is unique, however, there is one thing present in ever life.  It is the force that creates new life, and keeps every species on this planet from being endangered.  For the average person, it happens 103 times a year ().  It use to be considered scared and spiritual, however, in present day it can be found everywhere.  Most importantly it fulfills a human’s physical, emotional, and social needs.  What could be so profound?  The answer is sex.  Most of society is raised with sex being taboo.  Little children giggle about it, and see it as disgusting.  Even as adults, humans still consider sex to be taboo in situations.  However, many fail to see the power of sex.  Sex is very appealing and alluring, and could easily be used to manipulate people.  Now, many people would not use it for this reason, but what if someone did, like advertisers.  The truth is advertisers have used sex to lure people in to buying their products for years.  According to the Journal of Legal, Ethical, and Regulatory Issue, “It is common for a reader of any age to pick up a general-interest consumer magazine and find an advertisement featuring provocatively posed and attired models for many consumer products.”  Even though sex in advertisements has increased in years, some are still skeptical to conclude that sex creates sales. However, through using or suggesting sexual acts in advertisements, consumers are persuaded into buying the particular product.  These advertisements hook consumers because they get more attention, are arousing, and appeal to human’s sexual desire.

Over the years, Apple has become a revolutionary brand all over the world. Its products all seem to have one thing in common: innovative designs that look sleek, modern, and distinctive from all other products. The Iphone is no exception. Commercials advertising the Iphone are intriguing in a way that they do not have to use schemes such as sex appeal to sell their product. This is evident in the Iphone 3g commercial which is straightforward in showing consumers what they would be getting in the product. For example, there are a variety of applications that can be downloaded to an Iphone, such as a dictionary, calorie counter, or even facebook. The commercial shows examples of these types of applications first hand. Through the use of pathos, this ad is effective in its pursuit to persuade people that they can have e-mail and text messaging, a portable media player, web browser, camera, phone, and countless applications available from a click of a button all in one device.

Subway has been around for quite some time now and it is one of the healthiest ways to eat a fast meal when in a hurry or when it is time for lunch. Pathos plays a part in the Subway commercial that I picked. The commercial shows a lady and a man ordering fast foods stating “ba-donk-ka-donk and thunder thighs” instead of burgers and french fries, then the commercial goes straight into Subway showing that it is better food to eat. To come to the point, choosing Subway is better than choosing hamburger and fries!

The “Got Milk” mustache has been a part of most of our childhoods. We have seen posters in school, billboards on the street, and commercials on television. We have seen the mustache on celebrity’s from Hollywood, superstar athletes from the NFL, NBA, and NHL. Sometimes when we drink milk, we get that milk mustache and remember that we are not the only ones drinking milk! Milk is a part of our nutrition and provides humans with energy because it carries protein. We can use milk when we eat chocolate chips cookies, with cereal, and sometimes we mix chocolate syrup with milk to make chocolate milk. The Ad being analyzed is Reggie Bush holding a cup of milk with a milk mustache. He is suited up in his football gear because he is a NFL superstar. He plays on the New Orleans Saints, the 2010 Super bowl Champions. This Ad shows that the NFL, New Orleans Saints, and Reggie Bush support the “got milk?” Ad. This Ad is not like a business Ad that you would find at a big corporate business such as Wal-Mart or Kroger’s, it is like a universal Ad that promotes Milk. Milk can be found at any store that sells groceries, so it promotes most grocery stores.

Drunk driving is one the leading causes of death in the United States. Many are aware of this, but yet it continues. We have yet as a country seemed to understand the importance of not driving while intoxicated. We have yet to understand that both our life and those surrounding us life are in our hands when we make the choice to drink and drive. By showing several of scenarios of what happens to drunk driver’s advertisers reels our attention affecting us emotionally

“Grow your own pot… of tomatoes! But the leaves are yellow, brown splotches are forming, the branches are limb, the tomatoes resemble Sci-fi mutants… or it’s just not growing.” Does this description sound like what your plants are turning out to be? Whether growing different types of vegetables or flowers, stealth hydro has the products and experienced staff to help turn your Sci-fi mutants into healthy stable plants. The commercial exclaims, “Beginning or talented grower, anyone can get amazing results... even you.” While providing state of the art supplies and easy to grow instructions, how can one not be able to use hydroponics effectively? The W.R.I.F radio commercial for stealth hydro begins with a mysterious male voice stating “Grow your own pot…” followed by an enthusiastic female voice, “of tomatoes!” This sentence grabs the attention of any medical marijuana care giver or patient due to the promising results of this system. It also provides a detailed description for any grower of vegetables or plants that are growing ineffectively, since almost any plant can be grown in a stealth hydroponic system and cold climate is right around the corner.

Over the years,we have seen many methods of advertising. From sex appeal to the use of athletes, these ways are used to persuade an individual to purchase a product. However, there is one way of advertising that should anger millions of people across the entire world. You may wonder why. Well, women are constantly objectified, whether being portrayed as a sexual object or as a victim of violence. In these advertisements, you will see that consumers are trying to be persuaded to buy certain products based upon sexual desire or control. However, this is a disgusting and negative way to portray women.

What woman wouldn’t want just three periods a year?  Every other birth control out there require women to have twelve periods a year. So which one would you rather pick? Seasonique is a new birth control required to better women’s lives. With only having three periods a year on the pill, making plans, and uncomfortable period symptoms are the least of women’s worries. Although other birth controls do take away normal period symptoms like bloating and cramps, women still get that one week out of the month that they have to deal with having a period. So why even use other birth controls when you could have a birth control to better woman's lives by only giving them three periods a year?  Seasonique birth control is the new pill that will save womens lives, and make it easier on all women around the world.

The sound of Pertussis is one of the scariest sounds a parent can here. The commercial Silence the Sound of Pertussis makes parents more aware of the danger that their infant babies are in. This is pathos because it uses fear to gain the audience’s attention by the sound of Pertussis. Pertussis can be fatal and up to 85% of the cases come from a close family member. It is important to get vaccinated. The life of infant children are at risk. This disease has tripled in the past two decades. A child should have the pleasure of living life, not dying because the parents and close family members didn’t get vaccinated. Pertussis can be prevented; the life a child can be saved. It is important to save the child and not let the child be a victim of Pertussis.
